Rules and Regulations

 

1. Age requirement

All players must be 19 years or older as of March 29, 2024.  Proof of age must be submitted if requested by tournament committee.

2. No carded players

No carded players are allowed.  If you do have a carded player, your team will be disqualified.

3. Zero Tolerance - Intoxicated Play

No player will be permitted to step on the ice or remain in the game if the referees, tournament committee, or SMMHA volunteers believe them to be intoxicated.  No alcohol is to be consumed in the hallway, dressing room or ice level.  Should any of the above occur, the tournament committee reserves the right to suspend the player and team in question without refund.

4. Team personnel

Teams must be ready to start on time.  Players con only be rostered to one team and may not play on more than one team.  A team displaying unnecessary rough play will be warned once, if warning is ignored they will be expelled from the tournament without refund.  Helmets are.

6. Game plan

Warmup – 3 minutes

Two periods – 1st 15 minutes, 2nd 15 minutes

No overtime until finals

7. Body contact

Any player who intentionally pushes, shoves or stands in front of and does not avoid body contact with an opponent will be assessed a body contact penalty.  This will be a 2 minutes minor penalty or a major at the discretion of the referee.

8. No slap shots

A slap shot will be whistled down and face off will be in offending team’s end.  A slapshot is any shot above the player’s knee.

9. Match penalty

Any player who attempts to injure another player will be barred from the remainder of the tournament.  His team will be assessed a major penalty. The player will be banned from further play in future tournaments at the discretion of the tournament committee.

10. Fighting

Any player fighting will be given a match penalty and will be disqualified from the tournament.  Player will be banned from player in future tournaments at the discretion of the tournament committee.

11. Penalties

Minor – 2 minutes

Major – 5 minutes

Match – 5 minutes

Misconduct – 10 minutes + game

A major is automatically a game misconduct.  3 minors in one game is given a game misconduct.  Suspensions will carry over from the previous year.

12. Playoffs

The 1st and 2nd place team in each division will advance to the championship game.

13.  Finals

In order to participate in the finals, a player has to have played at least one game in the tournament.

14. Divisional Standings

2 PTS for a win, 1PT for a tie, 0PT for a loss.

a) If two teams are tied for a position, tiebreaker is head to head matchup.

b) If two or more teams are tied in points, tiebreaker is plus/minus.

c) If still tied, all goals scored against a tied team are divided into all the goals scored by that team.  Team with greatest quotient places higher.  NOTE  - team with zero goals against will divide by 1.

d) If still tied, whichever team scored first goal in the game against each other.

e) If still tied, the team that gets to the bar first wins.

15. Championship Game

If teams are tied at the end of regulation play, a 5 minute stop time, sudden victory overtime will be played.  If still tied, a shootout with 5 players from each team will occur.  All 5 players shoot.  If still tied, the same 5 players shoot again (sudden victory).
