Hockey Update - Development Skates, Tryouts, U9, U5-U7, Blackout Ice
With the always busy and fun first day of school behind us, we are sharing additional updates as our hockey season begins.

Development Skates
All U9-U13 players will be able to participate in 4 Development Skates prior to evaluations/tryouts. Development skates are not mandatory. Our skates are organized by division age and split according to last name (for divisions with larger player numbers). Please refer to the main calendar and look for your player age division listed as a Prep Phase Development Skate.

Tryout schedules have been posted in the main calendar and located under the Tryouts tab. Please read the Tryout Policy and complete the Tryout Registration online form no later than 48hrs prior to first tryout date if attending tryouts.
Any player looking to play U11-U15 boys Rep level hockey (B or C) must attend first team tryouts and be released before attending second team tryouts.
For girls where there are only two teams, players do not need to attend first team tryouts if they wish to play on the second team.
If a player wishes to play local league (boys) or house league (girls), no need to attend tryouts. You will be notified by email of your team for the upcoming season.

U9 Division
Any U9 player looking to play on the first team (U9 MD for boys and U9 C for girls) must complete the tryout registration form and attend U9 evaluations (listed as tryouts on website). Players will attend all 3 evaluation ice times and will be notified of their team for the upcoming season.
Players who do not wish to play on the first team, do not need to attend evaluations and will be notified by email of their team prior to start of season.
U5 and U7
Our young hockey players will hit the ice starting September 16. Ice times are organized by age division and last name and will continue like this until players are placed on a team. Starting October 7, ice times will be by team colour.
Blackout Ice
What is blackout ice? In the calendar you will see certain weekends marked as blackout ice meaning we have no or limited ice available on those dates. The ice pads on these dates are booked by other associations (incl. SMMHA) for tournaments etc. Some teams will still get on the ice on these dates so watch the calendar.
If you have any questions, please reach out.
Thank you
SMMHA President
