The
McPhail's Pet Store Bantam C girls showed up ready to play at the
Clearview "Get Your Pink on Tournament" in Alliston. The breast cancer
fundraiser did not have enough C teams to support a C division resulting
in McPhail's Bantam's playing in the B division.
The team's head coach, Brittany Sterkenburg, was confident the team would be capable of competing. Opening the tournament with a no score against Durham West, the Rock team proved ready to keep up. A few games of Swedish Kubb brought the team's competitiveness to a new level. The girls returned to the arena ready to knock over the next team, Guelph Jr. Gryphon Bantam B. Triumphing 2-0 the McPhail's Bantams were ready to take on any B team willing to face them. The third game against North Halton Twisters ended in another 0-0 draw.
Moving into the quarter final St. Marys battle the Cold Creek Comets until the very end; when in the final 30 seconds of the game, a spot for the team was reserved in the semi finals as the Rock comes out on top with a 2-1 win.
In the semi-final St. Marys met the fast flying, powerful Timmin's Falcons. The Falcons set The Rock as their prey, attacking St. Marys goalie Emma Luyten. McPhail's Pet Bantam's held on until the final period when they were defeated by the Falcons 2-0. Having battled the B divisions the St. Marys Rock Bantam C Girls returned home with pride.
