Reorganization - Process

How does reorganization happen?

Centres would need to conduct a vote of 2/3 or greater from their respective members to proceed with the proposed reorganization.

If a vote to reorganize passes, when would the reorganization be effective?

A reorganization would be effective for the start of the 2025/26 or 2026/27 season.

If a vote to reorganize fails, what happens then?

If either organization has less than the required yes votes the opportunity to restart or continue reorganization talks is lost for a minimum of two (2) years (per OMHA regulation).

Who can vote?

One (1) vote is permitted per registered OMHA family unit with a player whose home centre is one of the organizations involved.

When would we find out if the reorganization is approved?

The proposed reorganization will eventually be presented to the OMHA when all the requirements are completed for the best quality application. OMHA would need to approve the application prior to the reorganization being official.

Reorganization - Administration

What will the new association be called?

If the application is approved, a subcommittee will be created to manage the submission of ideas for names from members.

Will the new minor hockey association have a new Board of Directors?

Yes, the reorganized organization will have a new Board comprised of an equal number of people from each centre.

What will the center point be for the new organization?

This will be determined by the centres and included in the application. Right of Choice will be dependent on the center point.

Reorganization - Teams and Players

If the reorganization is approved, where will my Rep player play?

The new minor hockey association would work towards a fair and balanced allocation of Rep teams amongst the centres, so that all communities share in being able to host Rep team games and practices. The specific assignment of ice time will depend upon ice allocations and scheduling availability, and the age/division of the particular team. This could include Rep teams being based out of a specific arena for the season, or a rotation of ice times among the facilities throughout the season.

If the reorganization is approved, where will my Local League or OWHA player play?

One of the objectives of reorganization is to maintain the same high quality OMHA local league and OWHA experience. LL and OWHA teams will continue to play out of their current arena.

How will Head Coaches be selected?

Initially, head coaches will be selected by a new coach selection committee made up of equal representatives of each centre.

How will players be selected to Rep teams?

Initially, players will be selected using an unbiased evaluation committee and the head coach.

Will there be a fixed number of players from each centre selected for the Rep teams?

No, it is not realistic to set a fixed number of players from each centre. Player selection will be conducted by an unbiased evaluation committee and based on ability/skill.
