COACH COMMITTEE PURPOSE, COMPOSITION AND COMMITMENT LEVEL
The SMMHA Coaches Committee is responsible for identifying and selecting coaches for all teams, determining division structure/team player numbers, preparing for and monitoring tryouts, managing all coaching and team related matters and issues throughout the year, and conducting coach evaluations and exit interviews once the season is complete. The Coaches Committee is made up of six (6) members plus the 1st Vice President (Chair) and President. Committee members serve a multi year term. The commitment level is high and members are busy at the start and end of the season with period meetings throughout the season.
The ideal Coaches Committee member brings the following qualifications:
· has a strong understanding of the traits that make a good coach;
· understands the game of hockey and how to match coaching experience with division age levels;
· able to demonstrate fairness and objectivity when assessing candidates and qualifications; and
· able to operate within a confidential environment and demonstrate a high degree of integrity and reliability.
