Huge game for Hubbard Pharmacy Midgets this Sunday
Trip to year-end Provincials in Toronto on the line

By Pat Payton

The Hubbard Pharmacy Midget ‘B’ girls will play one of the biggest games of their 2019-20 hockey season this Sunday at the PRC. Game time is 7 p.m.

Bill McPhail’s team needs a win or a tie against the Stratford Aces to clinch a spot in the year-end Provincials in Toronto next month.

The Midget Rock has been involved in a three-team, round-robin OWHA playoff series with Stratford and the Huron Heat. Going into Sunday’s game, St. Marys has four points and Stratford three. The Heat, with just one win and two points, has been eliminated.

Sunday’s outcome will determine if St. Marys or Stratford goes on to the Provincials and compete in the ‘B’ Division.

This past Monday, the Hubbard Midgets defeated the Aces 2-1 in Stratford to improve their series record to 2-1.

Goals by Julia Cameron and Maddie Aarts--just 31 seconds apart early in the second period--staked St. Marys to a 2-0 lead. The Aces scored their lone goal with six minutes remaining in the third.

Kayley Thompson posted the win in net.

“It was a good, fast game; everybody came to play,” coach McPhail reported.
