Firefighter Peewees reach semi-finals at Delhi tourney

The Firefighter ‘BB’ Peewees won two and tied another to reach the semi-finals here at the Delhi Tabacco Town tournament over the Nov. 29-Dec. 1 weekend.

However, the road came to an end for the Firefighters in the semis Sunday morning when they lost 3-1 to Shamrock League rival Lambeth Lancers.

In their opening game on the Friday morning, Dwain Smith’s squad edged Waterford Wildcats 3-2. Trailing 2-1 after the opening 10 minutes, second-period goals by Colton Henderson and Hayden Brintnell gave St. Marys the win. Oliver McHugh also connected for the Rock, and Julian Walsh picked up the net win.

In their second start Saturday morning, the Firefighters skated to a 2-2 tie against the host Delhi Rockets. Scoring for St. Marys were Jayden Tipping and Evan Ballantyne, with Adam Turner, Hayden Brintnell, Jared Ballantyne and Ty Wheeler earning assists. Cyler Pickering played net.

In their third game Saturday night, the Peewee Rock downed the Mooretown Flags 3-1.

Scoring for the Firefighters were defenceman Grayson Boreham, Colton Henderson and Jayden Tipping. St. Marys led 2-1 after the first period, and then Tipping clinched the victory with a goal late in the third. The net win went to Walsh.

In the semi-finals Sunday afternoon, Lambeth held a slim 2-1 advantage after two periods, and then sealed the win with a goal midway through the third.

Hayden Brintnell scored the lone Rock goal, and Pickering went the distance in net.
<BR />
Tillsonburg edged Lambeth 2-1 in the tourney final.

Upcoming: Dwain Smith and his Firefighter Peewees will soon be heading to Watford to compete in their Regional Silver Stick tournament. They play Mt. Brydges Cougars and Essex Ravens in their first two games on Saturday, Dec. 21.
