Defending Champions - A Long Road to Victory!
Submitted By Rachael Torrance on Monday, November 11, 2019
The St. Marys Firefighter Peewee BB team entered the 64th Annual Mitchell Peewee Tournament as defending champions. After opening the tournament with a decisive 7-0 win against the Mount Forest Rams, the Rock faced an old foe in Dorchester. A back and forth battle led to two rounds of OT which couldn’t break the tie. A nine round shootout ensued with Dorchester taking the game 5-4. With a unique tournament format, the tough loss meant the Rock were forced to take the long path to make the final.

On Saturday, the boys faced 3 must win games and came to play. Knocking out home town Mitchell with a 4-2 win and sending Mount Forest home with a 2-0 win, the Rock finished off a long day by sending the Oro Thunder packing after a 2-0 win.

Tournament Sunday would see the Rock face a strong Ilderton Jets team in the semi-final. Down by 1 with less than a minute to play, the boys scored to force OT. After two OT’s, a shootout loomed. The Rock managed to take the shootout and 4-3 win earning a return to the final. The Rock playing in their 7th game faced a well rested Dorchester team playing their 4th game but the Rock had something left in the tank. The boys rattled off 5 goals to win 5-1 and defend the championship.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches and parents for a great weekend of hockey.
