The Hubbard Pharmacy Bantam ‘B’ girls have
gained a spot in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL) final.
After the teams tied 2-2 and 0-0 in their
first two meetings, Liz Simpson’s squad had the upper hand on the Sarnia Lady
Sting in the pivotal third game of the series last Friday night at the PRC. A
3-0 victory gave the Rock the four-point series 4-2.
Top goal scorer Julia Cameron scored the first two goals and Emily Shrubsole fired the third goal. Emma Luyten played outstanding in net to earn the shutout.
“It was a great game,” coach Simpson said. “We kicked up the intensity and played hard right until the end.”
St. Marys now advances to the LLFHL final against Lambeth Lancers, who defeated South Huron Sabres five points to one in their semi-final series. “If we win in round three, we will go to the ‘Best of the Best’ weekend in the GTA (Toronto) to play other division winners in LLFHL,” Simpson reports.
In OWHA playdowns, the Hubbard Bantams had a very close series with their rivals from South Huron. Sabres won the series three straight, by scores of 2-0, 2-1 and 1-0, and will now advance to the April provincials.
