ABS Tracs Bantam ‘C’ girls win Festival Cup Tournament
STRATFORD - The A.B.S. Tracs Inc. Bantam girls ‘C’ team won their division championship at the Stratford Aces’ Festival Cup tournament here recently.
The Don Scott-coached Bantams opened the tourney with a 6-0 victory over Lucan on the Friday.
In their second game on the Friday afternoon, the A.B.S. Bantams skated to a 2-2 tie with Lambeth. Kendra Robertson scored both Rock goals, with assists to Ava Ansley and Hailey Scott.
A 4-1 victory over Woodstock Saturday morning put St. Marys in second place after round-robin action.
Audrey Zurbrigg and Kiera Akey both scored twice in a 6-0 win over Woodstock Saturday night. The singles came off the stick of Natalie Johnston and Kendra Robertson.
In Sunday afternoon’s final at the Rotary Complex in Stratford, goals by Kendra Robertson, Ava Ansley and Kiera Akey lifted the A.B.S. Bantams to a 3-2 victory over Lucan.
“The team caught fire and played very hard to the net hockey. Grace Hillman was outstanding in net and the unselfish play of Kiera Akey helped fuel the positive energy on the team. Kiera played out instead of her usual goalie position to allow coach Don Scott to use two full lines and four defencemen. With Avery Jones on the shelf due to injury, the girls are playing iron-woman hockey and coming into form. A great effort by all.”
