Bantam BB Tim Greavette Memorial Tournament, South Muskoka:
On
Friday, November 18th the St Marys Bantam BB Rock took off to
Bracebridge/Gravenhurst to compete in the Tim Greavette Memorial
Tournament. The boys entered the weekend on a hot streak, and failed to
disappoint as they came back tournament champions by defeating the host
South Muskoka Bears in a shooutout.
St Marys 2, South Muskoka 1
It ended up being the 1st place seeds from their respective pools facing off in the final. The Bears came out strong, using their size and puck possession to pressure the rock, as goaltender Alex Martens was peppered throughout the game. It wasn’t until the second period when St Marys broke the deadlock, as Ben Martens banged in Eric Taylor’s wrist shot rebound. The Rock fought off the South Muskoka attack until 36 seconds left in the 3rd when the host team forced overtime. After 5 minutes of 3 on 3 overtime, it was off to a shootout. Ben Martens used his magic mitts to dazzle the Bears’ goaltender, as did Blake Boreham’s precise top shelf wrist shot. South Muskoka scored on 2 of their 3 attempts, so it all came down to Connor Aarts who buried the 3rd Rock shootout goal to seal the championship.
In the semi finals the Rock defeated Lincoln 2-1 in another shootout with goalie Jake Bryans standing tall to get the victory.
The Rock swept pool play by defeating Port Colborne 5-0, Lambeth 2-1 and Parry Sound 6-0.
