SMMHA Fundraising Bond

The Volunteer Bond was instituted many years ago in an effort to ensure that all St. Marys Minor Hockey Association fundraising events are adequately staffed. The St. Marys Minor Hockey association registration fees only generate enough money to cover ice rentals. All other expenditures have to be financed through fundraising efforts. The bond ensures that every family contributes to maintaining registration fees as low as possible.

The parents or guardians of each minor hockey player are asked to perform their bond assignment. Families can appoint some other responsible adult to perform their volunteer duties as long as the Bond Coordinator is notified in advance. Occasionally a player’s older sibling has completed a bond shift, siblings must be 14 years or older.

Rostered coaching staff received by the bond coordinator from OMHA and OWHA rep. will count as a bond for that child they are coaching.

Parents are required to complete a Fundraising bond at any SMMHA fundraising event during the year. This year’s events are:

  • - AE Tournament

  • - LL Tournament

  • - Initiation Program (Fun Day) Tournament

  • - No Body Contact (NBC) Tournament

  • - Wing Night

Shift duties vary depending on the event from registration tables, score & time keeping, kitchen duties, etc.

WHEN TO SIGN UP?

Online sign up links (website called signup.com) will be posted on SMMHA website a week or two before event dates as well as a mass email sent as a reminder . Start checking the website in early Event dates for the year will be listed for when bonds can be worked as they are confirmed. links to sign up will become live closer to that event date.

WHERE?

Most of the fundraising events take place at Pyramid Rec. Centre. Occasionally events are held elsewhere in St. Marys. There will be a central location (main entrance table or reg’n table) to check in at the event and sign that you have shown up for your bond.

HOW MANY BONDS REQUIRED?

Each family is required to perform one bond shift for each child they have registered in SMMHA to a maximum of two bonds per family.

LENGTH OF BOND SHIFTS?

Most bond shifts are between 2-3 hours long. Some shifts are longer than others because the event scheduling doesn’t break into the same evenly spaced segments.

HOW MUCH IS A BOND?

Bond cheques will be collected from parents at the beginning of the season from a coach or manager on their team.

The bond is now set at $250.00 per child for the 2018.2019 season, to a max 2 bonds per family dated Mar.31 at the end of hockey season. Families who have not fulfilled a Fundraising bond shift will have their bond cheque cashed at the end of the hockey season.

The reason for the increased amount is to encourage people to volunteer their time, instead of having their cheque cashed.

Fundraising bonds are a necessity to the operation of the SMMHA. The increased amount is to empWe thank you for helping us with this fundraising bond program. For more information or questions, please contact our Bond Coordinator - Judy Greig at [email protected]
